Bargain Headboard from Craigslist

Bargain Headboard

I bought a bargain headboard from Craigslist!  I am working on updating my guest room and did not have a headboard for our queen size bed.  I recently moved our oak filing cabinets into the guest room to use as night stands.  They are the perfect size to use as a nightstand and I already had them… so the perfect re-purpose of something we already had!  Then I started watching for a new headboard.  (This post may contain affiliate links.  This means that if you purchase a product through a link we have here in the post, we may be compensated at no cost to you.)

Headboard Budget

I set my budget for a new queen size headboard at $100.00 and really didn’t want to go over!  I started watching Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace for headboards in my area.  I have watched on and off since October and just didn’t see anything that I really liked.

Finding and Negotiating

One day last week, I searched again for a queen headboard in my area and this one popped up for $80.00.  I really like the clean lines and that it is in the same color family as the nightstands.  I texted a reply and waited to hear back.  Finally, he texted back that he still had the headboard and we could come look at it!

We drove to a nearby town… maybe 20 minutes away to look at it.  It was in their garage and was in good condition.  I asked if there was any negotiation room and he said to make an offer!  That is an open door for me!  I was able to negotiate the price down to $55.00 – perfect for my budget!  The whole process took less than 10 minutes!

I am thrilled with my bargain!  Stay tuned for more updates to the guest bedroom… next I think I will start on the artwork and maybe a storage shelf of some kind? Where do you recommend I look for reasonably priced artwork? Have you had any luck buying furniture on Craigslist or Marketplace?

  1. I have always been leary of purchasing things used off of any site. Maybe I should not over look craigslist and give them a go. Great looking head board.

    • I always take my husband when I go to look at things or in our town there is a parking spot at our local police department designated for those making exchanges from internet sales. If the seller is hesitant to meet at the police dept that’s a red flag and I immediately end the conversation. But really, I’ve had good luck with Craigslist and Marketplace. I’ve purchased a bedroom set for a different room in the house and I sold a car too. I tried to sell my old cell phones but I only got scammers who responded so I don’t recommend that! There are good people out there just wanting to get rid of their items and there are bad people too. You just have to use good discretion when using either site.

    • If I’m looking for something specific, especially furniture, I always look there first! I can usually get a really great price on really nice things as long as I’m patient and willing to search regularly until I’ve found exactly what I want.

  2. Gotta love Craigslist! It does look like it matches the nightstands too, so that’s a good bonus! Have you tried Offer Up? I’m finding it as a somewhat faster alternative to Craigslist in my area.

    • NO… I’d never even heard of Offer Up! I just Googled it… I don’t see how it’s any different than Craigslist or Marketplace except that it’s its own app. But hey, if it’s another site where people sell stuff, I’ll start searching there too!! Thanks for the recommendation!
