Warm Apple Roll

Warm Apple Roll

Just in time for Fall… One of my favorite desserts…Warm Apple Roll!!!  This is super easy and yummy!

I am making this to take to work for our birthday celebration so I am going to assemble it the night before and bake it in the morning before I leave for work.

One thing to note…I am OK with using “out of the box” Pillsbury pie crusts but for those of you who would prefer to make your own dough, I have included the original dough recipe at the bottom of this post.

You will need:

  • 3-4 medium apples (I prefer Granny Smith)
  • 2 pie crusts
  • 2 cups of water
  • 1 stick of butter
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg

OK…let’s get started!   I use 2 small apples or 1 ½ larger apples per pie crust.  Peel and core the apples and chop into small pieces.

Chopped Apples

Put the chopped apples on the pie crusts in an even layer.

Apples on Pie Crust

Carefully roll the pie crust like a jelly roll. Using your fingertips, seal the seam and press the ends together.

Rolling Pie CrustRolled Pie Crust

Place in a 9 x 13 pan, seam side down.  Do the same for the second pie crust and apples.

Apple Rolls in Pan

When I make this the night before, I cover the pan with aluminum foil and put it in the refrigerator.

Then I make the sauce:  I put 2 cups of water in a large pan.  I add 1 ½ cups of sugar, 1 stick of butter or margarine, 2 teaspoons of cinnamon, and 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg.  If I am making this ahead, I put it in the refrigerator as well.

Beginning Sauce

Preheat the oven to 350°.  Bring the sauce to a boil over medium to high heat stirring occasionally.

Sauce boiling

Let it slow boil for 2 minutes.  Pour the sauce over the apple rolls and place in the oven uncovered for 45 minutes basting 2 or 3 times during the baking time.

Assembled Apple Roll

This is best served warm! This apple roll is great by itself or for those of you who prefer apple pie ala mode…just add ice cream and enjoy!!
